The Thyroid Ghana Foundation (TGF), registered with the Thyroid Federation International (TFI),is a non-profit organization with the aim of promoting thyroid health, supporting persons living with thyroid disorders and facilitating thyroid research. Through our patient support programs, we have been able to guide patients through their thyroid surgeries and other treatment options by offering information, donations (cash covering laboratory investigations, drugs, transportation etc.), dietary counseling, and psychological support.
The thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland located at the base of the neck just below the Adam’s apple. It is part of an intricate network of glands called the endocrine system. The thyroid produces hormones which control all essential body functions.
Currently, the average cost of thyroid surgery per patient is between Fifteen Thousand and Twenty-Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS15,000–GHS25,000),due to the collaboration UGM Chas subsidized the cost of surgery to Eight Thousand Five Hundred Ghana Cedis (GHS8,500), also, there is the need to cover cost of other medical supplies to support these surgeries such as analgesics, antibiotics, ward dressing, sutures, thyroid medications, etc. as well as laboratory investigations, however, most of the patients are unable to raise the amount.
In light of the pressing need to support underprivileged patients and to advance our foundation's initiatives, the foundation engaged Orzip Limited Company to utilize their VAS solution platform. This collaboration aims to facilitate fundraising efforts, enabling us to provide essential resources to those in need. Additionally, the platform will enhance our annual awareness drive, which focuses on the early detection of thyroid diseases—a critical effort to reduce mortality rates associated with these conditions.
